Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre (AUSTRALIA)

First ATP / WTA LED Lighting Introduction in Australia

Over 90% Improvement in Illuminance and Over 60% in Energy Savings

This case study details the replacement of the main lighting at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, a project that substituted the existing metal halide lighting on six courts—including the main show court which broadcasts to a global audience—with LED lighting. To meet the demanding international broadcast standards, we collaborated with the technical team of our local Australian partner, Lamptech, and Olympic Park officials, which enabled us to achieve results and outcomes that exceeded expectations.

The existing 2.0kW (2.13kW including ballast) metal halide lamps were entirely replaced with GigaTera´s flagship sports light, the SUFA 400W product. In some areas where shadows occurred, additional luminaires were installed to create an optimal lighting environment. This resulted in an over 90% improvement in illuminance and an over 60% rate in energy savings, equipping the venue with a top-tier broadcast environment and an advanced profile befitting an international stadium.
